Staycation

This holiday weekend, I stayed in Chicago while the rest of the city emptied out! It was a beautiful weekend to enjoy all the city has to offer, without the crowds or traffic!
Even though I worked most of the day Saturday, Jason and I did have time to escape to the park for an hour and have a BBQ at Amanda's new apartment in the South loop.

After working overnight on Sat night, I was exhausted on Sunday. But not too tired to jump on my bike with Jason and head to Lake Shore Drive for "Bike the Drive." We rode about 40 miles in the sun and light breeze and finished up before the weather turned HOT !
Then we spent some time wandering The Maxwell Street market. Jason impressively can name all of these action figures by name. Can you?

After Maxwell street, some girlfriends came over to help me plant my flowers. We enjoyed a nice evening BBQing and hanging on my newly decorated porch before I fell asleep at a time that women with blue hair usually do.

Today's plans were foiled by the rain, so I spent the morning shopping on Michigan Ave. Not a bad way to end a great weekend!

First Cubs game of the Year

Jason took me to my first Cubs game this year. I think it was his 4th or 5th already. We had the most incredible seats. I could call in the strikes. The seats, in combination with perfect weather, made me a baseball lover. I could get used to spending Sunday's at the ballpark if it was always in that setting! AND look who else we found there....

Neglect

I haven't been very good about posting on here. Which is about to change.

While driving home from work yesterday I was remembering a story from a few winters back here at UIC hospital, the memory made me laugh the entire drive home.

It was winter time a few years back. One of my attendings, Dr. C, had parked his car, an SUV of some type, out front of the hospital. He got into the car he started to drive down Damen towards the highway. The car smelled a little funny, but Dr. C did not think much of it. Then he looked in the rear view mirror and a homeless man sat up in the back seat. Dr. C asked the man what he was doing in his car! The man said, "It was cold outside so he came in to keep warm." Then the homeless man said "Sorry, I ate your sandwich." Sure enough, his packed lunch had been eaten! The man then proceded to ask Dr C. to drive him to a specific homeless shelter/church a mile or two away. AND HE DID! When he told me this story, I asked Dr. C, "How did that guy get in?" Dr C. said, "Oh, I left the car unlocked."

Amazingly this is not the first story in my 5 years at UIC of a doctor finding someone in their car. Another time one of my liver patients absconded from the hospital and slept in a Psychiatry resident's car in the parking garage. The car was, once again, unlocked.

Learning point: Lock your car.

Obama's Michigan Commencement speech

The first two minutes of this gave me chills. What can I say. I will always bleed maize and blue.

Cabo San Lucas

My college roommate Andrea and I just returned from a week long vacation in Cabo. The weather was perfect every single day and we spent most of our time relaxing on the beach or by the pool with some good books and great conversations. Since Mexican has always been my favorite food, I thoroughly enjoyed every meal. The happy hours were not bad either!

Our hotel, Me Cabo. Instead of lawn chairs, there are cabanas and mattress to lounge on. Thursday- Sunday this place is quite the scene with a live DJ and women who all think they are Victorias Secret models in bathing suits I dont even know where you could buy. More tattoos than I've ever seen in my life.

Luckily the weekdays were very laid back we were able to snag on cabana in the shade and one in the sun so we could do our best from getting burned!

At night we ventured out for some great dinners and one night we went on a sailboat which played jazz music and served wine.

One day we took a water taxi to a deserted beach, in the morning we had the entire beach to ourselves. It was beautiful with rock and waves surrounding us.

Overall a fantastic vacation. If anyone is headed to Cabo soon, I am full of recommendations!
