Perfect City Escape

Yesterday Jason and I drove to Geneva, IL for his friend Chris's wedding. We stayed at the Herrington Inn and Spa which was fantastic. I highly recommend a weekend away from the city at this relaxing getaway.


The hotel sits on the Fox River. It is only about 20 rooms and each has a balcony facing the courtyard. They don't miss a single detail here. At night they place Oberweiss Milk and fresh cookies in your room and a hand written weather forcast for the following day. Each room has a whirlpool, a fireplace and a canopy bed you have to get a running start to get jump into! The famous Atwaters resturant is here too!

Across the river is a 30 mile long park with bikes to rent and the city of Geneva is charming with great boutique shopping.

A little over a week ago, I was finishing up dinner when my sister called saying she was having contractions every five minutes. It was 8:30 at night and I quickly got packed an to Ohare for the last flight to Minneapolis at 10:30pm. Danielle and Bryan had invited me to be a part of the delivery earlier in her pregnancy and I had planned my work vacation around her due date.

By the time I arrived at the hospital it was 1:00am and my sister was already dilated to 8 cm. It was an honor to be included in such a private moment. I was so impressed with both my sister and Bryan throughout the next few hours. Elizabeth was born at 4:07am on July 27th. She was 21 1/2 inches and 8lbs 13 oz. She is one of the most alert newborns I've seen and I can't wait to get back and visit her again.
