Chicago Thanksgiving

10 years ago Amanda and I both had to work overnight the Wed before Thanksgiving and we also had to work Friday morning.  Sleep deprived but determined to enjoy our holiday we filled our coffee mugs with mulled wine and headed to The Marshall Fields (now McDonalds) Thanksgiving Day Parade.  Just like that a tradition was born.  In the years to come, I'd encourage my parents, Jason and anyone else who was willing to join me at the parade.

The giant balloons, the marching bands, the holiday spirit.  It really is mesmerizing.  Even Jay likes the storm troopers and Jesse White tumblers.
This year we spent Thanksgiving with Jason's family.  The food was plentiful and delicious (all 3 plates full).  I don't get to see his family nearly enough, so it was fun spending the day relaxing with them and falling in love this little dog named Gracie.

I did really miss spending the holiday with my parents and sister, but I look forward to 4 days in December with them.  I was able to take full advantage of Chicago on a holiday weekend.  Walking into great restaurants like The Dawson and Belly Q without a reservation.
Meeting up with friends to run in The Grant Park Turkey Trot

Spending not one, but TWO nights with some of our favorite couples in the city.
And cramming in coffee, brunch, black friday shopping and manicures with more friends!

It was a much needed break from work and a moment to appreciate all that I have to be grateful for.
