Why Code Brown?

Hospital Emergency Codes vary from hospital to hospital, but starting in the year 2000 there is a strong push to universalize what each color means. However, many hospitals color code system varies drastically from each other. Below is a list of commonly used codes in my hospital experience- which is mostly in the Chicago area:

CODE BLUE- Cardiopulmonary Arrest or Immediate Resuscitation Needed
CODE PINK- Infant Abduction
CODE RED- FIRE
CODE YELLOW- Absconding Patient
CODE ORANGE- Hazardous Material
CODE BLACK- Severe Weather (although on Grey's Anatomy- apparently a bomb in a patients chest)
CODE SILVER- Threatening Patient

Additionally there are several "Doctor Joke" Codes which have been passed along throughout time. My personal favorite is Code Brown- Fecal Incontinence.
When walking down the hallway and smelling the strong odor of crap one might comment to another- CODE BROWN.

As I am about to start my fellowship in Gastroenterology, I felt that CODE BROWN DR was a perfect URL for my new blog.
